FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

Acerca de

DO YOU TATTOO MINORS?
I do NOT tattoo minors, no exceptions. All clients must be 18+ with a state issued photo ID or passport to get tattooed.

DO YOU REQUIRE A DEPOSIT?

A deposit of $50–$200, based on project size, is required. Deposits are non-refundable but apply toward your final tattoo price. For multi-appointment tattoos, the deposit is deducted after the last session. A $5 booking fee is added to the deposit. Deposits are forfeited if you (1) cancel, (2) no call/no show without 48-hour notice, or (3) reschedule more than three times. Rebooking after that requires a new deposit of the same amount.

HOW DOES PRICING WORK?

I price per piece, not hourly. When you submit a request, I’ll provide a set price—not a range—based on tattoo time, stencil prep, drawing (often the most time-consuming part), and admin time.

CAN I SEE MY DRAWING BEFORE THE APPOINTMENT?

Your design will be ready when you arrive for your appointment. Small edits can be made during your time slot, but major changes may require rescheduling. To avoid this, please share as much detail as possible during booking. If you have any additional info, email me at kpenndesign@gmail.com. If needed, we can schedule a consultation before your appointment.

DO YOU ALLOW CLIENTS TO USE NUMBING CREAMS?

Numbing creams can make an area harder to tattoo and can also affect the quality of your healed tattoo. If you do choose to use numbing cream, please purchase Painless Tattoo Cream brand and follow the instructions directly.

DO YOU DO COVER UPS/TATTOO REWORKS?

I enjoy taking on cover-up and rework projects, but they require flexibility and include an additional fee to reflect the extra skill, design time, and planning involved. If the original tattoo is very dark, I may recommend laser removal first. I generally avoid covering color tattoos unless the color is significantly faded. All cover-up and rework projects require a consultation.

DO YOU TATTOO OVER SCARS?

I am happy to help you transform your scars into beautiful artworks that you are proud to wear! However, I do need to see the scar before the day of the appointment to ensure that it will be safe to tattoo over. Please reach out to me if this is the case.

WHAT IF I FORGOT MY ID?

Unfortunately, I am unable to tattoo anyone without a photo ID and cannot make any exceptions.

DO YOU OFFER TOUCH UPS?

Hand, foot, and large scale tattoos may need touch-ups due to healing challenges. I offer one free touch-up within 6 months; after that, touch-ups are full price. Free touch-ups don’t cover sun damage or poor healing care.

WHAT PAYMENT OPTIONS DO YOU ACCEPT?

Cash is preferred, but I can take debit/credit payments. I cannot accept Venmo, Zelle, PayPal, etc. for tattoo payments. These options are available for (optional) tip.

HOW SHOULD I PREP FOR MY TATTOO APPOINTMENT BEFOREHAND?

Please arrive clean and showered, with the tattoo area washed (no need to shave). Moisturize the area daily for one week before your appointment. Eat a large meal beforehand and bring sweets or sugary drinks for during your appointment. Avoid heavy drinking the night before. Wear clothing that allows easy access to the tattoo area—feel free to ask if you’re unsure (e.g. loose shorts for hips, tie-up tops for ribs/sternum). I recommend wearing black or older clothes, as ink stains very easily. Do not arrive with sunburned skin.

WHAT SHOULD I WEAR?

I recommend wearing black since tattoo ink stains easily. For sternum/chest tattoos, wear a button or zip-up like a flannel or cardigan. For back tattoos, a flannel or zip-up jacket worn backwards works well. For leg or hip tattoos, choose shorts, loose sweatpants, or a tie swimsuit bottom. Terrarium Tattoo has six artists and limited privacy, so dress comfortably but with easy access to the tattoo area.

WHAT IS YOUR CANCELLATION/LATE POLICY?

Please arrive on time (not early) to minimize waiting. If you’re over 15 minutes late, you’ll need to reschedule and pay a new deposit. Cancellations with at least 48 hours’ notice can be rescheduled within 3 months using the same deposit. Canceling without proper notice will forfeit your deposit.
